Up first, the Abrasive Ale from Surly Brewing in Minnesota. This is a seasonal offering from Surly that is not available in Louisiana, but it does pop up often on a few websites that sell and ship beer to our state. They call it a 'Double Oat IPA' and it comes in at 9% abv and around 120 IBU. I'm ready for all those hops.
Reviewers: Eric Ducote (BR Beer Scene), Jeff Herman (Tiger Deaux-nuts), Dan Fisher, and Mandi Kaelberer.
Serving: 16 oz. can.
Appearance: Amber, not as dark as some DIPAs, some proteins still floating around from all the oats and hops.
Aroma: Hoppy and amazing... lots of citrus notes, very tropical, some pineapple and mango in there as well.
Taste: More pineapple than the aroma and an overall bouquet of hops. Fantastic flavor profile from the Warrior and Citra hops.
Mouthfeel: Great mouthfeel, nice carbonation and a smooth finish despite the IBUs.
Overall: One of the better DIPAs I've tried recently, this one doesn't get the nationwide love it probably deserves. Or maybe it does get that love we just don't hear about it down here. Either way, look for this one online or during your travels, you will not be disappointed!
